Following the completion of the merger of the Utah Information Technology Association (UITA) and Utah Life Science Association (ULSA), the Utah Technology Council has announced additional leadership news for the combined organization. Will West, president and CEO of Control4 and longtime UTC trustee, has been appointed the new UTC chairman, serving with President and CEO Richard R. Nelson.

As incoming chairman, West is highly involved in developing Utah's technology sector. West has played an active role in the advancement of the USTAR Economic Development Initiative and also serves as chairman of the recently enacted $100M Fund of Funds. West is a serial entrepreneur, now leading his fourth successful technology company in Utah.

"Will West's entrepreneurial background and his serious championing of industry change with the $100M Fund of Funds and passage of the USTAR Initiative make him ideally suited to chair the Utah Technology Council," Nelson said. "His leadership will help UTC to continue its course in building Utah's technology community."

Will West holds a degree in finance from the University of Utah, an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and has received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He recently received the 2006 Ernst & Young Master Entrepreneur of the Year (R) Award for the Utah region.

Other new appointments to the Utah Technology Council board include Brad Walters as vice chairman and Shawn Adamson, Alan Hall and Dinesh Patel as members of the Executive Committee.

Brad Walters is the CEO and president of MaxStream, a leading provider of wireless connectivity solutions. He recently received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Technology in the Utah region.

Shawn Adamson is the vice president and general manager of XO Communications, a leading provider of voice, high-speed Internet and data services.

Alan Hall is founder and chairman of MarketStar, a leading provider of channel sales and marketing solutions for companies throughout the United States and abroad. Hall is also the founder of Grow Utah Ventures, which is the most active early-stage venture capital firm in Utah -- having invested in more than 30 companies so far.

Considered by many to be the father of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals in the Mountain West region, Dr. Dinesh Patel is currently one of four partners at vSpring Capital. In recent news, Patel has been named one of UTC's two inductees to the 2006 Hall of Fame.
