The Rural Business Conference just celebrated its sixth annual event on Wednesday in Logan as keynote speaker Alan E. Hall announced his seven characteristics of successful businesses; among the characteristics were, taking care of customers and maintaining a “winning” culture.
Alan stressed the importance of businesses taking care of their customers even after the sale. “You have to remember, ladies and gentlemen, that after the sale, you're not done,” he said. Then with a show of hands the audience indicated that nearly all of them have had a negative buying experience; Alan believes this shows that businesses aren’t doing their jobs.
When it comes to developing and maintaining a “winning” culture, the first step is to do much like MarketStar and hire people who are competent, capable, compatible, committed and have character, whereas many companies hire based only on competence. This along with the idea of giving back to the community has allowed Alan to ensure a “winning” corporate culture
